A Racing For Kids First: Indy Racer Brothers to Visit Sick Children at Blank Children’s Hospital

For the first time in the 21 year history of Racing For Kids, two race drivers from the same family will make the hospital visit to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, June 18.   The Wilson Brothers – Justin and Stefan will both be racing at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA, this coming weekend.  Justin will be competing in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 in the IZOD IndyCar Series on Sunday and Stefan will be racing in the Firestone Indy Lights Series race on Saturday. 

 

Charlie Kimball, who also drives in the Indy Lights Series, will participate in the visit as well. 

Justin Wilson. , who drives the #22 car for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing this season, came in second in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.  Presently he is in 7th place in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar series

 

He has two wins since entering the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2008.   In 2009 he finished 9th in IndyCar Series standings when he recorded three top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

 

Stefan Wilson, who drives the #28 car for Bryan Herta Autoport, is in sixth place in the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Series Championship with four starts, three top 10 finishes and one top 5 finish.  Last year (2009) was his first year in the Indy Lights Series and he started six races for Walker Racing with a best finish of 4th in Toronto. 

 

Charlie Kimball was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2007 and monitors his blood sugar during races through a device on his steering wheel.  Before his diagnosis in 2005, Kimball became the first American in 11 years to win a British Formula 3 race.  He went on to secure two track records and several Formula 3 victories in both Britain and Europe. 

 

In 2009 Kimball returned to the US as part of the Firestone Indy Lights series finishing 10th overall.  Kimball pilots the #26 Novo Nordisk sponsored car for AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport in the Indy Lights Series and is presently in second place in the series championship.
