Plans are underway for a repeat of last year’s successful event – Racing For Kids to the Hill, to be held in conjunction with the 2008 Belle Isle Grand Prix, which will run over Labor Day weekend. Merchants and businesses located on The Hill, are once again sponsoring a day-long celebration to raise funds for Racing For Kids®, a Grosse Pointe Farms-based national charity, which uses the popularity for motorsports to support and promote children’s healthcare issues. Once again there will be two components to the event, which will be held from 2 to 9 pm on Wednesday, August 27th.
The first part will be a street fair along Kercheval Avenue, which is free and open to the public. The street fair will include “dream” cars on display, music, food, a sidewalk sale and activities and games for the kids. There will also be an authentic IndyCar® show car on display and opportunities for children to be photographed in the car.
The second part of the event will be a fundraiser, including a reception and racing-related auction to be held at the Northern Trust Building from 6 to 9 p.m. This gathering will feature cocktails and signature hors d’oeuvres from area restaurants. The auction will include a Grand Prix package for four, featuring grandstand seats, infield passes, pace car rides around the track and hospitality.
Tickets for the reception will again be $75 per person and invitations will be mailed in June. For more information or to receive an invitation, call Racing For Kids at 313-882-3403 or visit www.racingforkids.org.
A major part of the proceeds from the first Racing For Kids to the Hill were given to DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan for their pediatric cardiology program.
