Lights Racer Philip Major Delights "Sick Kids" At Toronto Hospital Visit
Firestone Indy Lights racer, Philip Major, visited with more than 75 young patients during a Racing For Kids visit to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, Thursday, July 14. Major, who races for Sam Schmidt Motorsports, first spent time with patients at the IZODS IndyCar Series show car outside of the hospital's main entrance off of University Street. He helped patients in and out of race car, autographed hero cards and Racing For Kids caps then posed for pictures. He then visited bed ridden youngsters on a room to room basis.
It was a carnival-like atmosphere with excited youngster, their siblings and parents surrounding the race car, peppering Major with questions as workday traffic hurried by on Toronto's busy University Street.
One young girl who has been a regular patient to the Toronto hospital effused to her mother "this is the best day of my life."
Major an Ottawa, Ontario native is a rookie in the Firestone Indy Lights Series after spending two years racing in the British Formula 3 championship.
