Mike Conway Makes Stop To See UK Medical Center Kids
IZOD IndyCar Series racer Mike Conway spent a couple of hours with more than 50 young patient and their siblings Thursday,April 29 at the University of Kansas Medical Center as part of the Racing For Kids program. Conway, who drives for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, will pilot the #24 car in Saturday's Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 at The Kansas Speedway.
First, making bedside visits including a trip to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, Conway engaged the young patients in conversation about the excitement and speed of IndyCar racing and his plans for Saturday's event. Later outside on the UK hospitals' south grounds, he helped youngsters get in and out of an IndyCar show to the delight their parents and hospital staff.
"This was an enjoyable visit,"said Conway." I was here last year. It is always great to see these kids smile."
In its 21 year, Racing For Kids uses the popularity of motorsports to focus public attention and funding on the healthcare needs of children. It's
racer team, many of whom drive in the IZOD IndyCar Series, have visited more than 20,000 hospitalized youngster in the United State, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan. The charity has also donated $5.2 million in grants and in kind gifts to the hospitals visited and other child health institutions and causes.
